When thinking of someone who is a competent communicator, Maya Angelou was the first person who popped into my head. There are many contexts in which someone can be a competent communicator; Maya Angelou is effective both as a writer and as a speaker.
Maya Angelou not only has powerful writing/poetry, but she is a wonderful speaker. I had the honor of attending an event at which she spoke at and was amazed at her eloquence, confidence, and the beauty of her words. I think that Maya Angelou is an effective communicator because she understands and uses the power of words, choosing them carefully to send her messages. At the same time, she speaks clearly and confidently; listening to her is amazing.
I am a shy and quiet person, I often fumble trying to find the right word and dread speaking in front of a lot of people… I would love to have the confidence and grace that Maya Angelou does when communicating with others!

ReplyDeleteI agree that Maya Angelou is a great communicator. When speaking about the choice of words and the power that words bring when communicating with others I think of the video clip that we viewed at the beginning of class that talks about "Change your words, Change the World". The small change that was made to the sign by the young lady in the video not only allowed the blind man to receive money but it changed the focus of the people giving the money. I would like to believe that their focused shifted from giving to yet another begger on the street to thinking how they would feel if they could not see the beauty of the world around them.
Also, I know of a teacher that is very shy when it comes to crowds and speaking in front of alot of people, but when you put her in a classroom or a room full of children you can never tell that she is shy. I think that their is a place for everyone even those that are shy.

ReplyDeleteI like the choice of person that you chose as an effective communicator. I also love to hear Maya Angelou speak and/or quote poetry. SOme of her actions brings chills over me and it keeps me thinking about if for quite sometime.
I like to talk, but sometimes I find it hard to speak inf front of others, especially the parents of the children in my class, it is funny that I can deal with or speak to their children all throughout the day, but when talking to the parents it makes me nervous.

ReplyDeleteMaya Angelo is amazing. I think some people are gifted to communicate. Maya Angelo is gifted to speak and write words like no other. Anytime I see her on a show or see her writings, I stop and learn.
